Serving Area Gardeners Since 1974
In 1974, John and Joyce Heese opened Laurel Nursery/Garden Center Inc at its current location on just one acre of ground. Fourteen years later, in 1988, their son, Ken Heese, graduated from Ohio State University ATI with a degree in nursery management. With his help, the business expanded to five acres of retail space.
In 1993, we added the large houseplant and tropical greenhouse, enabling us to significantly expand our plant offerings. Just a year later, Ken’s wife, Patty, joined our staff.
Growing Into the New Millennium
Beginning in 2002, we continued our growth by expanding our garden center and adding several specialty areas:
- A Christmas shop featuring themed trees, wreaths, garland, tabletop items, and more
- An outdoor living area with grills and outdoor décor
- LuLu’s Boutique featuring clothing, gifts, and more
Soon after, Jacob Heese, the son of Ken and Patty, joined our staff and brought a third generation into our family business.
Our Store Today
Beginning with just one acre over 45 years ago, Laurel Nursery/Garden Center has grown to occupy 66 acres today. We have almost 16,000 square feet of greenhouses and 12,000 square feet of retail area, plus our nursery production area.
Through the years, we've earned Readers' Choice Awards and been active members of the Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce.
In our shop, you'll find everything you need for gardening, landscaping, and home décor. We're open all year long, and our inventory changes with the seasons. Whether you're preparing for spring gardening or looking for pumpkins and mums for the fall, we have what you need.
