In 1974 John and Joyce Heese open the Laurel Nursery and Garden Center at its current location on just one acre of ground. Fourteen years later in 1988 their son, Ken Heese, graduates from Ohio State University ATIwith a degree in Nursery Management and the business expands to 5 acres of retail space.

In 1993 the large houseplant and tropical greenhouse is built, expanding their plant offerings. Just a year later, Ken’s wife Patty joins the staff.

Beginning in 2002 the expansion of the garden center continued. The Christmas shop included themed trees, wreaths, garland, tabletop items and more. Other items for the home were added like grills and outdoor décor. The popular Lu Lu’s Boutique began and is now one of the most popular areas for shopping for clothing and gifts. Jacob Heese, son of Ken and Patty, joins the staff as the third generation involved in the business. Fall is now one of the most popular season for shopping for pumpkins, gourds, squash and over 3,000 mums available in multiple colors. So from one acre in 1974, the Laurel Nursery currently occupies 66 acres between nursery production and retail sales as well almost 16,000 square feet of greenhouses and 12,000 sq. ft of retail area giving you a wide choice of anything you might need for the outdoor landscape or the home.
